The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (June 25 to 26):

Murder:

• The body of a 31-year-old man was found in the Mkhankwa Village informal settlement near Ergo on Saturday morning.

Brakpan police were called to the scene at around 7am and found the deceased with a gunshot wound to his stomach.

Police are appealing to anyone with information which may help the investigation to come forward.

Hijacking:

• Four armed men made off with a silver Mercedes Benz after hijacking the driver in Leachville, last night (Monday).

The victim was confronted by the hijackers as he arrived at his Punda Maria Street home at about 7.30pm.

He attempted to run away, but the hijackers caught him and bundled him into the Mercedes.

He was driven to Wattville in Benoni and released about two hours later at a local cemetery.

The hijackers also took the victim’s laptop, cellphone and bank cards.

Common robbery:

• A man was robbed while travelling by taxi on Friday night.

The victim boarded a taxi with three male occupants near the Modderbee Prison in Benoni at about 6.30pm and was shortly thereafter grabbed by one of the males, who warned him, “don’t try and be clever.”

The victim was robbed of his cellphone and laptop, and forced to provide the pin number for his bank card.

After making a stop at a bottle store in Brenthurst, the robbers drove the victim to Leachville where he was forced out of the taxi along New Kleinfontein Road.

Business robbery:

• Gardening equipment was stolen from a Brakpan North business during the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).

A security guard on duty at the Hewitt Avenue premises was overpowered by two men at around 1am.

The robbers broke into a storeroom and fled with two weed eaters.

Burglary:

• Voortrekker Road.

The break-in took place on Monday.

Stolen: Cash and household items.

Theft of motor vehicle:

• A black Honda motorbike was stolen from an address along Hamilton Avenue on Sunday.

A dog on the property was found dead. Police did not indicate whether the animal was poisoned or killed by other means.

Theft from motor vehicle:

• Tyres and mags were stolen from a car parked along Boyd Road in Brenthurst, on Sunday.
