Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Sound equipment was stolen during a break-in at a house along Northdene Avenue.

* The driver of a silver Renault was robbed of his vehicle by two men.

The hijacking took place along Elsburg Road, at the intersection near the entrance to Carnival City, at about 8.20pm.

The victim, who was en route to Alberton, was stationary at the traffic lights when two men climbed into his car.

They pointed a gun at him and told him to drive.

After a short while, he was instructed to pull over.

The victim was forced into the backseat where he was bound with his belt and shoelaces, and robbed of his tablet, bank card and house keys.

He was driven to a veld in the Zonkizizwe informal settlement, near Katlehong, and released some time later.

• Saturday – A car trailer was stolen from an address along Gale Road in Larrendale.

* A spare wheel was stolen from a vehicle parked at Carnival City.

• Sunday – No information was received.

Other cases:

• Thursday – A male taxi commuter was robbed of his belongings by two men and a woman.

The victim was attacked after boarding a white Toyota Quantum along Elsburg Road, near Carnival City, at about 6pm.

The men were armed with tools – one with a hammer and the other with a wheel spanner – while the woman was brandishing a firearm.

The victim was searched and robbed of his cash and bank card, and then forced out of the taxi.

* A home along Denne Road in Rand Collieries was burgled of a portable radio and other valuables.

• Theft: 2
• Shoplifting: 1
• Malicious damage to property and common assault: 1
• Possession of drugs: 3
• Fraud: 1
• Assault on police officer: 1
• Assault GBH: 1
• Drunk driving: 1
