The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (April 24 to 25):

Cases reported:

• Theft from motor vehicle: 2
• Business burglary: 1
• Theft of motor vehicle: 1
• Robbery with firearm: 1 (Johannesburg case)
• Attempted murder: 1
• Theft: 4
• Theft out of motor vehicle: 2
• Shoplifting: 1
• Inquest: 1
• Tampering with infrastructure: 1

Arrests:

• Shoplifting: 1
• Fraud: 1
• Contempt of court: 1
• Theft: 1

Burglary:

• Voortrekker Road (business).

The break-in took place yesterday (Tuesday).

Stolen: Cellphones.

Theft of motor vehicle:

• A woman was robbed of her vehicle by a hoax buyer.

The victim advertised her vehicle, a silver Volkswagen Polo, for sale on a popular online classified site and was then contacted by a man who wanted to purchase the vehicle.

After an inspection of the vehicle by another man acting on behalf of the buyer, the man agreed to buy the car.

The victim received a payment notification from the bank and the car and its papers were handed over to the man.

The money, however, never cleared in the victim’s account.

Theft out of/from motor vehicle:

• A spare wheel was stolen from a car parked at Carnival City on Monday.

• A car parked along Hagart Street in Brenthurst was broken into on Monday and its radio was stolen.

The vehicle’s wheels were also taken.

• On Monday, a laptop, wallet and other valuables were stolen from a car parked in Waterval Street, Leachville.

• A car parked at Makro Carnival was broken into yesterday.

A laptop, digital camera and two cellphones were stolen.
