Ekurhuleni expands access to healthcare by extending operating hours at 29 clinics

There are currently 94 primary health care facilities in Ekurhuleni.

Not everyone has the privilege of taking a day off from work to visit the clinic.

In broadening access to health care services to residents, 29 clinics in the City of Ekurhuleni have extended their operating hours.

The provision of extended service hours is part of the city’s strategy to reduce the burden of long waiting times at clinics and to improve access to primary health care.

Five more clinics are earmarked to be added to those that operate for extended hours, and construction of an additional 10 state-of-the-art health care facilities is already in the planning phase.

There are currently 94 primary health care facilities in Ekurhuleni.

The services offered at the facilities include, but are not limited to, child health care services, immunisation, maternal health, management of acute and chronic illnesses, mental health service as well as HIV counselling and testing.

These extended hour facilities also render allied health services such as rehabilitation services and dental health and maternity services where there is a midwife obstetric unit on site.

The Brakpan, Geluksdal and Tsakane clinics are now open on Saturdays from 8am to 2pm.
