Easter weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the long weekend:

• Friday – A man was robbed of a large sum of cash after meeting with a male from whom he was supposed to buy car equipment.

The pair agreed to meet at an address along 12th Road in Maryvlei to conduct the sale.

When the victim arrived at about 3pm, the fraudulent seller threatened him with a gun and demanded his money.

The robber also took the victim’s cellphones and a GPS device.

* A man was robbed in the parking lot of Mall@Carnival.

The victim was returning to his car at about 9.30am when he was stopped by three men.

Two of the men held him while the other searched him and took his cellphone.

The trio then ran off.

* A Minnebron couple was robbed of their grey Volkswagen Polo by two hijackers.

Two men, one of whom was armed with a gun, confronted the victims as they pulled into the driveway of their Farquharson Road home at about 11.45pm.

The hijackers also fled with jewellery and a handbag containing bank cards, cash, a cellphone and a set of keys.

* A TV was stolen from a home along Kiaat Street in Dalpark.

• Saturday – An attempted hijacking was reported at an address along Ivy Avenue in Leachville.

The female victim arrived home at around 12.30am and was met by two men in her yard who demanded the keys to her car.

She threw the keys into the garden and started screaming.

The would-be hijackers ran off when the victim’s family members emerged from the house.

One of the men managed to grab the victim’s handbag, the contents of which included bank cards, cash and a driver’s licence.

A case of common robbery is under investigation.

• Sunday – A blue Toyota Yaris was stolen from an address along Hagart Street in Brenthurst.

* Three homes were burgled.

TVs, a bicycle, CD player, DVD player and jewellery were among the items stolen from homes along Hospital Road in Brakpan North (Magaleni informal settlement), Afrikaner Road in Dalview and Station Road.

* A Suzuki motorcycle (model and colour not provided) was stolen from Hastings Avenue.

• Monday – A male taxi passenger was robbed of his cellphone, cash and other valuables.

The victim boarded a white Toyota Quantum along Second Road in Witpoort Estates at about 1.45pm.

There were four men and a young boy in the vehicle.

Shortly after the taxi pulled off, the victim was grabbed from behind by one of the other passengers and told to lie down.

The victim was searched and robbed of his belongings.

He was forced out of the taxi along Gert Bezuidenhout Street in Minnebron.

Other cases reported:

• Wednesday – A car parked along Paul Kruger Avenue in Dalview was broken into and a GPS device was stolen.

* Mags and tyres were stolen from a car parked at an address along Afrikaner Road in Dalview.

* A DVD player and camera (type not specified) were stolen from a vehicle in Gerrit Maritz Avenue, Dalview.

• Thursday – A home along Zeeman Street in Brenthurst was burgled of kitchen appliances, liquor, a TV and laptop.

* A school learner was robbed by two people in Vulcania.

The robbers are known to the victim, who was confronted by the pair as he was walking along Molecule Road in Vulcania at around 11.30am.

They grabbed his schoolbag and threatened to stab him.

The robbers fled with two cellphones and some cash.

* A blue Bashan 150CC motorbike was stolen from Prince George Avenue in Brenthurst.

• Possession/dealing in drugs: 8
• Drunk driving: 3
• Housebreaking and theft: 1
• Drunk in public: 1
