Selling your car online? Read this first

This follows a recent incident in which a resident was robbed of his vehicle by a hoax buyer.

Brakpan police have urged residents to practice good judgement when selling goods online.

According to police, more than a dozen similar cases have been reported in the last three months.

The latest victim advertised his vehicle for sale on a popular online classified site and was then contacted by a man who agreed to purchase the vehicle.

The car was collected on behalf of the buyer after the victim received a payment notification from the bank.

The notification led the victim to believe the money was successfully deposited, but the money never cleared in his account.

Residents are advised to wait for deposits to clear at the bank before handing over any goods.
