Daily crime watch

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (February 26 to 27):

Cases reported:

Armed robbery:

• A truck driver was assaulted and robbed along Vlakfontein Road in Sallies Village yesterday morning (Monday).

The victim was sleeping in the vehicle when he was awakened by two men at around 12.15am.

They threatened him with a gun and demanded money.

The robbers pushed him to the ground, repeatedly kicked him and stood on him.

They also assaulted the driver of another truck parked nearby.

The robbers fled with the victim’s cellphone.

Hijacking:

• Five men travelling in two vehicles hijacked the driver of a white Isuzu panel van along Ergo Road in Sallies Village yesterday.

A red Nissan 1 Tonner bakkie overtook the driver, who was making deliveries at around 8.30am, and slowly drove in front of him.

The driver was forced to stop when the bakkie braked in front of him.

He then noticed a maroon Volkswagen Jetta behind him and saw balaclava-clad men armed with guns alighting both vehicles.

The driver was forced out of the van and taken to one of the vehicles.

His face was covered and he was dropped off near Vosloorus in Boksburg.

The van was later recovered at an undisclosed location.

Robbery with other weapon:

• A man was robbed of his wristwatch along Main Reef Road in Anzac yesterday.

The victim experienced car trouble and pulled over on the side of the road at around 5.30pm.

He got out of the car and was approached by two men, one of whom was armed with a knife.

The victim handed over his watch and the pair fled.

Weekend crime round-up:

The Herald was unable to publish the report yesterday, but has since received the information from police:

• Friday – Four burglaries were reported.

These took place at homes along Kouga Street in Leachville and Dirk van der Hoff Street in Denneoord, and at businesses in Denne Road, Witpoort Estates, and Lukas Steyn Street in Withok.

A TV, two pairs of shoes, a mountain bike, tools, gardening equipment and computer screens were stolen.

• Saturday – A business in Hoy Avenue was broken into.

The office was ransacked, but nothing was taken.

* A blue Volkswagen Citi Golf was stolen from Escombe Avenue.

* Tyres were stolen from a truck parked along the R550 (Elsburg Road) near Dalpark.

* A woman was raped in the veld near Hofmeyer Street in Brenthurst at about 2pm.

The victim was confronted by a man armed with knife, who threatened to stab her if she screamed.

She was forced to accompany the man into the veld where he then searched her and told her to lie down.

The victim was instructed to cover her face and the man raped her.

* A Big Boy scooter (colour and model not provided) was stolen from an address along Frere Avenue.

• Sunday – A Leachville man was shot during a robbery in his Klipspringer Avenue home.

Two robbers gained entry to the house at around 2am and held the victim and his wife at gunpoint.

They cleared the safe of its contents and demanded the victim’s firearm.

One of the robbers was handling the victim’s gun when a shot went off.

The victim was hit in the leg and the robbers fled with a TV and other undisclosed household items.

* Three TVs were stolen from a restaurant at Mall@Carnival.

• Malicious damage to property and contravention of protection order: 1
• Possession of unlicensed firearm: 2
• Theft and malicious damage to property: 1

• Drunk driving: 2
• Possession of drugs: 1
