Volunteers get trained in patrolling

A training session for neighbourhood patrollers was well attended on Saturday morning (10 February).

The session, which was conducted by Capt Chris Avenant of the Brakpan SAPS, was primarily aimed at CPF members although local security companies and neighbourhood watch groups were also invited to attend.

The training focused on the dos and don’ts of patrolling as well as the legal aspects around civilian arrests.

The organisation and execution of effective patrols also came under the spotlight.

Approximately 30 members from AfriForum’s Brakpan neighbourhood watch were among the group attending the training session.

Several members of AfriForum’s Brakpan neighbourhood watch were among the group attending the training session.

“The neighbourhood watch is part of AfriForum’s local branch structure and has the purpose of assisting the community in times of need in co-operation with the police,” said Gerhard Cilliers, secretary of AfriForum’s Brakpan branch.
