Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A scrap metal dealership was robbed by two men.

The robbers entered the Porter Avenue premises at 1.44pm and threatened a female employee at gunpoint.

The pair fled with a large sum of cash.

* Airtime, cash and cigarettes were stolen from a tuck shop along Numbi Avenue in Leachville.

* A youngster was robbed of his cellphone and wireless speaker in the park along Rook Street in Brenthurst.

The victim and a friend were approached by a lone robber at about 4pm.

He demanded the victim’s belongings and threatened to kill him.

The victim’s father reported the incident to police.

* A motorbike (colour, make and model not provided) was stolen from Tweedy Road in Brenthurst.

• Saturday – A brawl between two men at a Goods Road tavern escalated into a shooting.

The pair were playing cards at about 1am when one accused the other of cheating.

A fight broke out and one of the men pulled out a gun and fired a shot.

No injuries were reported. A case of attempted murder is under investigation.

* A home in Graaf Street, Sunair Park, was burgled of a TV, DVD player, two tablets and other household items.

• Sunday – Copper cables were stolen from business premises along High Street.

A security guard on duty at the address was confronted by two armed men at about 1.30am.

He was tied up, pistol-whipped and robbed of his cellphone.

A group of about eight men were involved in removing the cables.

Other cases:

• Thursday – A business in Denne Road, Witpoort Estates, was burgled of laptops, a desktop computer and electric tools.

* Tools were stolen from a home along Victoria Avenue.

• Wednesday – A spare wheel was stolen from a bakkie parked at Mall@Carnival.

• Possession of drugs: 5
• Assault GBH: 3
• Possession of unlicensed firearm: 2
• Drunk driving: 2
• Interfering with police duties: 1
• Drunk driving and discharging of firearm: 1
• Rape: 1
• Shoplifting: 2
• Drinking in public: 9
