Task Team back with a bang

Members of the Brakpan Anti-Hijacking Task Team are back doing what they do best - ridding Brakpan's streets of criminals.

The task team was reinstated two months ago after being disbanded in May 2016.

Renowned for their success in catching dangerous offenders, the team, comprising WO Jan Roos, WO Sonja Roos, Sgt Ockert Venter and Const Jacques Vivier, has started 2018 with a major triumph.

On Monday they tracked down and arrested a man sought for various burglary cases in the Brakpan area.

An unlicensed firearm and stolen goods, including a luxury vehicle and jewellery, were also recovered.

Following up on information received, the task team members headed to an address in Tsakane at about 1pm where they found the 28-year-old suspect.

They also found a white Audi A3 parked on the property with false number plates.

An unlicensed firearm and several rounds of ammunition were discovered inside the car.

Further investigations revealed that the Audi was stolen during a burglary at an address along Jim Vining Street in Minnebron on Christmas Day, last year.

According to information received from police, the victim returned home at about 8pm after a day out to find the residence had been burgled of a TV, jewellery, liquor and other household items.

His Audi and its keys were also taken.

The arrested suspect is connected to several other crimes and faces charges of, among others, being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
