Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Tyres and rims were stolen from a vehicle parked along Prince George Avenue in Brenthurst.

* A man was robbed at the corner of Goods Road and Stoffberg Avenue.

The victim was walking to town just after midday when he was approached by an acquaintance who asked him for a cigarette.

As he was taking out a cigarette for the man, the victim’s wallet fell from his pocket.

He bent down to pick it up and saw another man, also known to him, pointing a gun at him.

The gunman took the money from the wallet and ran off, followed by the acquaintance.

• Saturday – Cash and a USB flash drive were stolen from a car parked in Germains Avenue.

* Two break-ins were reported.

These took place at homes along Athlone Avenue in Dalview and Abercorn Avenue.

TVs, cash and other valuables were stolen.

* Batteries were stolen from two trucks parked at an address along Main Reef Road in Anzac.

• Sunday – A case of attempted murder was opened after a gunshot was fired at a man in a tavern along Second Road in Witpoort Estates.

The incident took place at about 1.30am following an altercation between the victim and the gunman.

The victim sustained an injury to his ear and was taken to hospital.

Other:

• Thursday – A home along Taft Avenue was burgled of liquor and kitchen appliances.

• Monday – A pub in Van Dyk Road, Van Eck Park, was robbed by five men during the early hours of this morning.

The robbers, two of whom were armed with guns, entered the establishment at around 12.30am and assaulted the owner.

They fled with cash and a cellphone.

• Drunk driving: 4
• Assault GBH: 1
• Assault and malicious damage to property: 1

• Intimidation: 1
• Assault (domestic violence): 2
