It’s almost time for the Toy Run

It is synonymous with a great day out and comprises of entertainment, stalls and events.

Thousands of bikers will convene at Carnival City on Sunday, November 26, for a mass ride to Benoni as part of the annual Toy Run.

Launched in 1982 (simultaneously in Cape Town and Johannesburg) by the Italian Motorcycle Owners Club, the Toy Run is the largest motorcycling-related charity event in Southern Africa.

The event is held every November at over 20 venues around South Africa.

The Gauteng Toy Run collects in the region of 22 000 toys on the day and these are redistributed to service clubs and requesting charities that evening.

This enables many of the less fortunate children to receive their gifts in time for Christmas.

There are five mass rides culminating at the Benoni Northerns Sports Grounds in Benoni on November 26.

These depart at 9am from Carnival City, Silverstar Casino, Blockhouse Engen (North), Irene Village Mall and the women only run is from Rivonia Crossing (same centre as the Rivonia Barnyard Theatre).

The Toy Run is an institution amongst the biking fraternity.

It is synonymous with a great day out and comprises of entertainment, stalls and events.

The only entrance fee charged is a toy for the less fortunate and it need not be new.

Children benefiting from the event range in age from six months to 18 years and Toy Run patrons are urged to focus on educational and toiletry packs as gifts.

Participants are reminded that the Metro Police Department could be checking bikes for roadworthiness and that the organisers fully support the wearing of full protective gear.

Participants must arrive at least half an hour before departure time.

There are still opportunities available for stalls at the end venue.
