Two arrested and two admitted to the intensive care unit.

Jewellery, two flat-screen TVs and a toy gun were found in the car crashed by four suspects in Withok Estates, yesterday afternoon (Thursday).

Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS, provided more information on the events preceding the accident.

She told the Herald that four males were seen breaking into a house along Oberon Road, in Sunward Park, Boksburg.

“The neighbour saw what was happening and pressed his panic alarm notifying his security company,” said van Staad.

“Upon the security company’s arrival, the suspects started shooting at them and they returned fire.

“The suspects fled the scene in a silver Kia Cerato and the security personnel gave chase.

“On the R23, the suspects collided with a private vehicle and two of them fled the scene.”

These two were later found hiding on a plot in the vicinity and arrested.

Two suspects who were wounded during the shoot-out were taken to the Far East Rand Hospital under police guard.

Van Staad confirmed to the Herald this morning (Friday) that the pair were being treated in the intensive care unit.

Police investigations revealed that the Kia Cerato – which had two different number plates – was hijacked in Montclair, KwaZulu-Natal.

No real firearms were recovered.

Cases of  possession of a hijacked vehicle, possession of stolen property and reckless and negligent driving have been opened at the Brakpan SAPS.

A case of housebreaking is also under investigation by the Boksburg SAPS.
