Brakpan police rake in the awards

Awards for men and women in blue.

Hard-working Brakpan SAPS members were recognised at the recent Ekurhuleni Central Cluster 2017 Prestige Awards.

The function was held at Carnival City and saw members of the SAPS honoured in several categories.

The Ekurhuleni Central Cluster comprises 11 police stations: Brakpan, Boksburg, Boksburg North, Reiger Park, Benoni, Dawn Park, Crystal Park, Actonville, Putfontein, Daveyton and Etwatwa police stations.

High-ranking police officials from Gauteng, as well as members of the cluster’s various community policing forums, were also in attendance.

The programme directors were Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Capt Pearl van Staad and Capt Lusha Govender, Brakpan SAPS Sector Four manager.

Winners from the Brakpan Police Station were:

• Administration Employee of the Year (level one to seven): Lavonia Goliath (secretary to station commander)

• Administration Employee of the Year (level eight to 12): Lieut-Col Hilton Henstock

• Administration Group of the Year: Brakpan SAPS Human Resource Management

• Crime Intelligence Group of the Year: Brakpan Crime Information Management Analysis Centre

• Woman of the Year: Col Evelyn Smith

Brakpan SAPS telephone operator Jean-Marie van der Schyff was a finalist in the Best Performing Disabled Person of the Year category.

Honoured in the Provincial Recognition of Service Excellence category were Dineo Mahase (intern, Brakpan SAPS Human Resource Management), Linda Swart (volunteer, Brakpan SAPS Victim Empowerment Centre) and David Molaudzi (handyman, Brakpan SAPS supply chain).
