Long weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Two laptops were stolen from a home along Gate Street, in Brenthurst.

* A car parked at an address along Lester Road, in Brenthurst, was broken into and the radio stolen.

The vehicle’s mags were also taken.

• Saturday – A woman was raped at the Sallies Hostel by a man known to her.

The victim was preparing food at around 2.20pm, when a man wearing a balaclava entered the room.

He pushed the victim on the bed, where he undressed and raped her.

A suspect was later arrested.

* A home along Derby Avenue was burgled of a games console, hair dryer, portable hard drive device and other household items.

• Sunday – A male taxi passenger was robbed of his belongings by four men.

The incident took place along Hewitt Street, in Brakpan North, at about 9am.

Shortly after boarding the taxi, a white Toyota Quantum, one of the men grabbed the victim and held him down.

He was searched and robbed of two cellphones, a set of keys, his clothes (jeans, t-shirt and baseball cap), tekkies and spectacles.

* A man and his girlfriend were hijacked at the corner of 11th Road and 12th, in Maryvlei.

Three hijackers approached the couple as they sat in the car – a maroon Volkswagen Golf 3 – at around 4am.

The man was pulled from the car and assaulted.

His girlfriend was still in the car when the hijackers climbed in and drove off.

The woman was released unharmed along the N17 highway.

* Groceries, shoes, clothes and blankets were stolen from a residence along George Street, in Anzac.

* A Kitzinger Avenue resident was shot at by the occupants of a silver bakkie.

The man was standing in the street outside his house at around 8.45pm, when he noticed the vehicle pull up.

He heard one of the three occupants in the bakkie say ‘just shoot’.

The resident ran inside his yard and heard shots being fired.

He escaped unharmed into the neighbouring property and the shooters fled.

A case of attempted murder is being investigated.

Other cases:

• Thursday – A motorbike (make, model and colour not provided) was stolen from an address along Gladstone Avenue.

* A car parked along Waterval Road, in Leachville, was broken into.

A wristwatch and other valuables were stolen.

• Possession of drugs: 3
• Furnishing false information: 1
• Malicious damage to property (domestic violence): 1
