Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A cream-coloured Toyota Corolla was stolen from the corner of Escombe Avenue and Elliot Street.

* Four homes were burgled.

The break-ins took place at homes along Currey Street in Dalview, Hospital Road in Brakpan North, Green Street in Brenthurst, and York Street.

Clothes, laptops, digital cameras, cellphones, DVD players and other electronic items were stolen.

• Saturday – Tools were stolen from a vehicle parked along Abercorn Avenue.

* A woman was robbed along Prince George Avenue at around midday.

The victim was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked car, waiting for a family member, when she was approached by a man who asked to use her cellphone.

After making a short call, the man handed the phone back to the woman.

He then pointed a gun at the victim and instructed her to open the car door.

The robber searched the car and the victim’s handbag, taking two cellphones and a large sum of cash.

* Two cars were stolen.

A white Fiat Uno was stolen from Kingsway Avenue, and a blue Toyota Camry was stolen from Van Zyl Street, in Brenthurst.

• Sunday – A woman was raped and assaulted in the Plastic Village informal settlement.

The victim was walking home at around 1.30am, when she was attacked and overpowered by a man known to her.

The man dragged her into the veld, where he undressed her and then raped and assaulted her.

A suspect was later arrested.

* A cellphone shop in Mall@Carnival was robbed by three men.

The robbers entered the store at around 9.30am and threatened staff members at gunpoint.

They fled in a white BMW, taking cash, cellphones and tablets.

* A home in Porter Avenue was burgled of tools.

* Jewellery, two laptops, a TV, DVD player and games console were stolen from an address along Joubert Street, in Brenthurst.

A car parked on the property, a white Renault Clio, was also stolen.

Other cases:

• Wednesday – Four wheels (rims and tyres) were stolen from a trailer parked along Mans Street, in Withok Estates.

• Thursday – A toolbox was stolen from a bakkie parked at an address along Voortrekker Road.

* A woman was robbed of her handbag and necklace at the corner of Voortrekker Road and Hyland Street.

The victim was walking to her car at around 2.15pm, when a man grabbed the jewellery from her neck and snatched her bag.

The bag contained cash, the victim’s driver’s licence, bank card and medical aid card.

• Sexual assault: 1
• Rape: 2
• Pretending to be a labour department official: 1
• Possession of drugs: 3
• Drunk driving: 7
• Dealing in drugs: 1
• Assault GBH: 5
