Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A woman was robbed at gunpoint in Dalview.

The victim made a large cash withdrawal at a bank in the CBD at around 12.20pm and then drove to an address along Cardigan Street.

As she took her handbag out of the vehicle’s boot, a man walked up to her and pointed a gun at her.

The robber grabbed her handbag and ran to a nearby vehicle – a grey Toyota Yaris – and climbed in.

The vehicle, which had three other occupants, then drove off.

Other valuables inside the handbag included a pair of reading spectacles, bank and credit cards, and identity documents.

* Shoes, clothing and bags were stolen during a break-in at a shop in Victoria Avenue.

* A white Nissan Sentra was stolen from the corner of Lemmer Road and Springs Road, in Maryvlei.

• Saturday – A black Volkswagen Polo was stolen from Carnival City.

* A male driver was robbed at the R23 (Heidelberg Road) and Airport Drive intersection, in Dalpark.

The incident took place at about 1.30pm when the victim was forced to stop his car because the vehicle in front of him – a black Volkswagen Golf – suddenly stopped.

Two occupants, one of whom was armed with a gun, alighted the Golf and approached the victim.

The victim climbed out of his vehicle and the men helped themselves to his belongings in the car – a cellphone and a bag of clothes.

They returned to the Golf and drove off.

* Two batteries were stolen from a truck parked at an address along Springs Road, in Vulcania.

• Sunday – A petrol station along the R23, in Dalpark, was robbed at gunpoint by two men.

The men entered the shop at around 4.55am and pointed a gun at the cashier.

They fled with cash and cigarettes.

* A man was arrested for attempted murder following a stabbing incident in the Mgongo informal settlement, along Location Road, near Brakpan North.

The victim was asleep at around 5.20am when four men entered his shack.

One of the men stabbed the victim in his arm and shoulder with a sharp object.

The victim was also assaulted with a stick.

Brakpan police arrested one of the suspects later that day.

Other cases:

• Thursday – Two burglaries were reported.

These took place at homes along Van der Westhuizen Street, in Dalview, and Ellis Street, in Brakpan North.

A TV and jewellery were stolen.

• Speeding: 9
• Possession of suspected stolen property: 1
• Drunk in public: 1
• Drunk driving: 11
• Attempted murder: 1
• Robbery with firearm: 1
