Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A TV, laptop, cellphone and other household items were stolen during a break-in at a home along Spies Street, in Brakpan North.

• The driver of a green Alfa Romeo was hijacked in Brenthurst.

Four hijackers climbed into the victim’s vehicle at about 9pm while he was stationary at the traffic lights along Olympia Road.

He was instructed to drive to the Springs CBD, where the hijackers forced him out of the car.

The victim was struck on the head with a brick and robbed of his cellphone and wallet.

The hijackers took off in his car.

* A motorbike (make and model not provided) was stolen from an address along Milner Road, in Anzac.

• Saturday – Two cars, both gold in colour, were stolen.

A Toyoto Etios was stolen from the corner of Cavendish Steet and Wenden Avenue, and a Toyota Conquest was stolen from Mall@Carnival.

• Sunday – A spaza shop in Mkhankwa Village was robbed by four men.

The owner arrived at his shop at around 3.30am and was opening the door when he was grabbed from behind and pepper-sprayed in the face.

His attacker then pushed him to the ground and pointed a gun at him.

Three other men joined the gunman and began to assault the victim.

The attackers then entered the shop where they stole groceries valued at R2 800.

They also stole the victim’s wallet and cellphone.

* A white bakkie (make and model not provided) was stolen from the corner of Kitzinger Avenue and Park Street.

The following arrests were made in Brakpan over the past weekend:

• Shoplifting: 1
• Drunk driving and reckless driving: 2
• Drunk driving: 5
• Theft: 8
• Possession of drugs: 1
• Business robbery: 1
