Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Computers, a TV, a sound system and other household items were stolen during a break-in at a home along Afrikaner Road, in Dalview.

* The driver of a red Volkswagen Polo was hijacked along Graskop Avenue, in Leachville.

The man and two friends had arrived at an address along this street at about 11pm to fetch another friend, when a silver car drove up and suddenly stopped.

A man armed with a gun alighted the vehicle and pointed it at the friends.

The driver and two friends were pulled from the Polo, searched and taken to the silver car, while the other victim was searched and left in the Polo.

Both cars then drove off.

The Polo was abandoned near Spruitview and the victims were reunited.

They were then driven to Alberton and dropped off.

* Two cars parked at an address along Gamkarivier Crescent, in Dalpark Extension Six, were broken into.

A car radio, two speakers, a wallet, cash, a school bag, a purse and a car mobiliser were stolen.

* A white Toyota Hilux bakkie was stolen from Carnival City.

• Saturday – Five men robbed a security guard at a construction site along Heidelberg Road, near Makro Carnival, at about 1am.

The guard was held at gunpoint and his hands were bound with wire.

He was robbed of his jacket, boots, tools, lunchbox, phone charger and bicycle.

* A woman was robbed of her handbag while walking along Tweedy Road, in Brenthurst.

The victim was confronted by a man armed with a gun at around 5.20pm, who demanded her cellphone.

He grabbed her bag and fled on foot.

The bag contained her house keys and a pink overall.

* Mag wheels were stolen from a car parked along Grant Street, in Brakpan North.

* A cream Hafei bakkie was stolen from Keats Street, in Dalpark.

* The driver of a white Toyota Quantum was hijacked after he was pulled over by bogus traffic officers along Heidelberg Road, near Dalpark.

The man noticed a white Ford Ranger bakkie behind him, flashing its lights, at around 10.40am.

He pulled over, thinking it was the police, and the bakkie stopped in front of him.

A white Volkswagen Polo then pulled over and stopped behind the victim’s vehicle.

The victim was approached by a man wearing a traffic officer’s uniform, who asked for the victim’s driver’s licence.

The ‘officer’ then pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim.

The victim was instructed to get into the back of the Quantum and lie down.

He was dropped off in a veld in Leachville.

Sunday – At the time of publication, no incidents of theft, robbery, burglary, hijacking or any other serious crime had been reported.

Other cases reported:

• Tuesday – Two step ladders and various tools were stolen from an address along Hendrik Potgieter Street, in Dalview.

• Thursday – A business in Lemmer Road, Vulcania, was burgled of cables, pieces of copper and stainless steel and other valuable goods.

* A white Toyota Yaris was stolen from Van Zyl Street, in Brenthurst.

Weekend arrests

The following arrests were made in Brakpan over the past weekend:

• Possession of drugs: 3
• Drunk in public: 1
• Drunk driving: 10
• Shoplifting: 1
