Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

• Friday – A woman was robbed in her home along Klipspringer Avenue, in Leachville.

Two men, one of whom was armed with a pickaxe, entered the house at around 12.25pm.

The victim, who had seen the men on her property on CCTV, locked herself in a bedroom.

The robbers broke down the bedroom door and confronted the victim, asking her what time her husband arrives home.

The pair then searched the house and fled with a TV and a cellphone.

They were seen driving off in a white vehicle.

* A home situated along Kingsway Avenue was burgled of a TV, laptop and jewellery.

* Three men were arrested after robbing and abducting a satellite TV installer.

One of the suspects had contacted the victim to arrange for him to come out to an address along George Troskie Street, in Minnebron, to fix a problem with his TV.

The victim arrived at the house at around 5.30pm and phoned the ‘customer’, who told him to meet him at a nearby shopping centre.

When the victim arrived at the centre, he met up with the man and two others, and agreed to travel with them, climbing into their car.

Once they had driven off, the men started to assault the victim.

The victim was accused of breaking into the home of one of the men.

They demanded a large sum of cash from the victim and threatened to kill him.

He was searched and robbed of his wallet.

The victim convinced the men to take him home so that he could get them money.

Once at home, he alerted his wife, who notified police.

The trio took off when the SAPS arrived, but were later apprehended and arrested.

* A business situated along Braemer Avenue, in Dalview, was burgled.

Computers, cash and other goods were stolen.

• Saturday – A car parked at Carnival City was broken into.

A digital camera, cellphone and other belongings were stolen.

* Three burglaries were reported.

These took place at homes along Joubert Street, in Brenthurst, Augrabies Avenue, in Dalpark Extension Six and Hove Road, in Dalpark Extension One.

Fishing rods, laptops, TVs, jewellery and other household items were stolen.

• Sunday – A home along Strange Avenue was burgled of an iPad, bottles of apple cider and a 5kg bag of rice.

* Wheel caps and a badge were stolen from a car parked at Carnival City.

* A break-in was reported at a workshop along Greer Street, in Vulcania.

At the time of publishing, police were awaiting a list of the stolen items.

* A man was arrested after he was found in a locked office at the Brakpan Police Station.

Other cases reported:

• Wednesday – The driver of white Toyota Hilux bakkie was hijacked along Denne Road, in Denneoord.

The victim stopped at a petrol station at around 10.10am to buy something to eat, when a man armed with a knife opened the passenger door.

He got into the bakkie and instructed the victim to drive.

They drove to an unknown destination, where they picked up another man.

The victim was later forced into a white Toyota Quantum with four occupants and driven to Florida, near Johannesburg, and let go.

The bakkie has since been recovered.

• Thursday – Tyres and rims were stolen from a car parked along Roeties van den Berg Street, in Minnebron.

* A red and black Honda CBX250 was stolen from an address in Gerrit Maritz Street, in Dalview.

* Tyres and a radio were stolen from a car in the Mkhankwa Village informal settlement, near Ergo.
