Local school wins Hirsch’s nationwide competition

Brakpan Primary School triumphed with 60 children on the mattress.

Hirsch’s regional stores nationwide recently had an idea to celebrate World Sleep Day to see how many children could fit onto a queen-size mattress for at least 30 seconds.

Brakpan Primary School triumphed with 60 children on the mattress. The school that came second had 47 and the school that placed third had 43 children.

Brakpan Primary School’s principal, Mo Samsoodeen (left), were celebrating with the learners as they reached the 30 second mark with 60 learners squeezed together on a queen-size mattress.

Brakpan Primary will donate the 10 mattresses, sponsored by Cloud Nine and Rest Assured, for the preschool on the school’s premises.

The preschool helps the underprivileged parents in the area and a lot of the funding comes from the school by way of fund-raising and donations.

“Thank you to Hirsch’s, Rest Assured and Brakpan Primary School. We need new mattresses desperately and the kids will have a better nap time as well,” said Malinda Jacobs, who runs the preschool.
