Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A Brakpan North man was robbed of thousands of rand in cash.

The victim withdrew the cash at a bank in a Benoni mall and then drove to his home in Biggs Avenue.

As he stopped at the address at around 1.50pm, a silver Volkswagen Polo stopped behind his vehicle and three men armed with guns alighted the car.

They demanded money and the victim handed over a bag containing the cash.

The trio returned to the Polo and drove off.

* A man was robbed of his firearm and wallet by a lone robber at the corner of Voortrekker Road and Bedford Street.

The victim was walking to his vehicle at 1.15pm, when he was grabbed from behind.

The robber pressed an object into the victim’s back and told him not to turn around.

He was searched and robbed of his wallet, firearm and its holster.

The wallet contained a large sum of cash, banks cards, his driver’s licence, firearm licence and medical aid card.

* A case in terms of the Act regulating Arms and Ammunition was opened after a motorist reported another driver pointing a gun at him.

The incident took place along Civin Road, in Sonneveld, at about 3pm.

The suspect is known to the victim.

* Two men robbed a petrol station along Elsburg Road, in Dalpark, at 8.30pm.

The robbers fled with cash and cigarettes after threatening the cashier with a gun.

An eye-witness reported seeing the men drive off in a white Nissan Almera.

* A Hyundai H100 was stolen from Mall@Carnival.

* Tyres were stolen from several trucks parked at an address along Short Road, in Rand Collieries.

* Four burglaries were reported.

These took place at addresses along Cole Crescent, in Brakpan North, Tigerwood Street, in Dalpark, Floors Street, in Withok Estates, and Queen Avenue.

Television sets, kitchen appliances, garden tools, electronic goods and shoes were amongst the items stolen.

* Batteries for agriculture machines were stolen from a property in Hewitt Street, Brakpan North.

Garden equipment was also stolen.

• Saturday – A man was abducted and robbed in Leachville.

The victim was confronted by three men outside his Boven Avenue home at around 8pm.

The men took the victim’s cellphone and then drove him to a bank where he was forced to disclose his pin number.

The robbers withdrew cash from the victim’s account and left.

* Copper pipes, wiring and wheelie bins were stolen from a vacant property in Jones Avenue.

* Two cars were stolen.

A silver Volkswagen Golf was stolen from Birchwood Street, in Dalpark, and a silver Volkswagen Fox was stolen from Victoria Avenue.

• Sunday – No information was received.

Other

Thursday – Two men robbed a school learner of a tablet along Kitzinger Avenue.

The robbers grabbed the learner’s bag and dumped its contents on the ground, searching for valuables.

The pair found the tablet and fled on foot.

The incident took place at about 3.30pm.

* Gardening equipment was stolen from a home along Paul Kruger Avenue, in Dalview.
