Would-be hijackers strike at drive-thru

One of the occupants cocked a firearm and pointed it at the group, while another alighted the vehicle and ran towards their car, screaming.

A group of friends escaped a suspected hijacking while waiting for their order at the drive-thru of a fast food eatery at Mall@Carnival.

The incident took place at about 1am on Thursday morning, last week.

According to information received from the Brakpan SAPS, the group – a man, his wife and three friends – noticed a white Volkswagen Citi Golf with three occupants stopping in the road nearby.

One of the occupants cocked a firearm and pointed it at the group, while another alighted the vehicle and ran towards their car, screaming.

The man then tried to pull the driver from the car, but failed because the driver was wearing his safety belt.

The driver reversed his car and the man returned to his vehicle, which then drove off.

It is suspected the men wanted to hijack the car the victims was travelling in.

A case in terms of the Act Regulating Arms and Ammunition was opened at the Brakpan Police Station.
