Five killed, six injured as taxi rolls

Paramedics discovered the lifeless bodies of four men and one woman.

Five people have been killed and six others injured after a taxi rolled on the R23 (Heidelberg Road) in Brakpan, this morning (Friday).

The crash took place at about 6.30am.

“ER24 paramedics, along with various other services, arrived on the scene to find the taxi lying upright on the side of the road,” said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

“The occupants were found lying around the vehicle after they were ejected when it rolled.

“Upon assessment, paramedics discovered the lifeless bodies of four men and one woman lying a short distance away from the vehicle.

“Unfortunately, these five patients had already succumbed to their multiple, fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for them and they were declared dead on the scene.”

Six other patients were found on the scene. Assessments showed that the injuries ranged from minor to critical.

Paramedics immediately began their treatment and provided the critically injured patients with advanced life support interventions.

Once treated, the patients were transported to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.

The details surrounding this incident are not yet known, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
