Weekend crime round-up

A case of murder was opened after a man was shot and killed.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A television set and numerous CDs were stolen from a home along Grant Street, in Brakpan North.

* A man was robbed of a large sum of cash by a robber armed with a knife.

The victim arrived at company along Voortrekker Road at around 8.30am, and was parking his car on the premises when the robber smashed his car window.

The robber then opened the car door and pulled the victim out of the vehicle.

He threatened the victim with a knife and searched the car, taking the cash.

* A woman was robbed of her cellphone by two men.

The victim was confronted by the robbers as she walked along Voortrekker Road, at about 4.30pm.

They took her phone after searching her, and fled on foot.

* An open car window resulted in the theft of a woman’s handbag.

The victim, who had placed her handbag on the floor on the passenger side of the vehicle, was stationary at the intersection of Voortrekker Road and Station Road, when a man leaned in through the open window and grabbed the bag.

The theft took place just after 5pm.

The bag’s contents included makeup and house keys.

• Saturday – House robbers struck at a home along Langenhoven Road, in Dalpark, at 6.30am.

The homeowner and his son were in the garden when three robbers armed with guns jumped the wall.

The victims were told to lie down and two of the robbers headed to the house, while the third kept a watch over the father and son.

The robbers quickly returned and searched the homeowner, taking his house keys.

They then returned to the house.

The robbers later opened the front gate and an unidentified white car reversed onto the property.

The victims watched as the robbers loaded items into the car.

Father and son were then taken to the garage and the robbers fled.

They stole a television set, an iPad, jewellery, a safe containing coins and the house keys.

* A red Suzuki motorbike was stolen from Strange Avenue.

• Sunday – A case of murder was opened after a man was shot and killed in Leachville.

Police were called to the scene, at the corner of Sipres Avenue and Kaapmuiden Street, just before 11pm.

On arrival, they found an adult male with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Paramedics declared the man dead on the scene.

Eyewitnesses told police that two men had opened fire on the victim.

The victim has been identified.

Other:

• Thursday – A home along Essex Street, in Dalview, was burgled of a television set, laptop, iPad, tablet and other valuables.

* Two men walking home along 12th Road, in Maryvlei, were robbed at 6.10pm.

The victims were approached by two men, one of whom pointed a gun at the pair.

They were instructed to lie down and the robbers searched them.

The victims were robbed of two cellphones and a wristwatch.

Police have since arrested one suspect.

• Malicious damage to property: 1
