Life for two rapists

A local detective's sterling police skills have resulted in life imprisonment for two rapists.

Det WO Leshole Monyele, from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, succeeded in ensuring that the violent attackers of two women would spend a very long time behind bars.

The offenders, Mxolisi Mokone and Andries Ndlovu, both 35, each raped two women during the early morning hours of December 29, 2013.

The victims, aged 26 and 28 at the time, were walking home from a party together at around 3am, in Tsakane Extension Five.

Mokone and Ndlovu approached the victims from behind and threatened them with a firearm, demanding the women accompany them.

When the victims refused, they were forced to undress and Mokone and Ndlovu took turns raping them.

One of the victims was also robbed of her cellphone.

Police were able to link Mokone to the crime through the stolen cellphone.

Ndlovu was serving time for a different robbery conviction when he was connected to the crime through forensics.

Sentencing took place in the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court recently and both received life sentences for each of the two counts of rape.

They were declared unfit to possess a firearm and deemed unsuitable to work with children.

The court ordered that their names be added to the National Register for Sexual Offenders.

In addition, Mokone was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

“WO Monyele is commended for outstanding services rendered and all the hard work,” said Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS.
