WO Joseph Mazibuko and Const Bhekokwakhe Sibanda apprehended the robbers near the Brakpan Cemetery.

It may be almost four years later, but justice has finally been served.

Three men who robbed a local liquor store in 2013 were recently sentenced in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court.

The trio – Clement Sibanda (36), Khaya Zulu (34) and Meldado Ndlovu (34) – robbed the store at gunpoint, along Ergo Road in Maryvlei, on April 24, 2013.

The robbery took place at 1.40pm and the three fled with cash, cellphones, a laptop, cigarettes, airtime vouchers and a digital video recorder.

“The robbery victims managed to point out the getaway vehicle to police officers on patrol, who gave chase,” said Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS.

WO Joseph Mazibuko and Const Bhekokwakhe Sibanda apprehended the robbers near the Brakpan Cemetery.

All three were arrested and the stolen items were returned.

During recent court proceedings, Sibanda and Ndlovu were each sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances, while Zulu received 20 years.

All three were declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The court ordered that Sibanda and Ndlovu, who are foreign nationals, must be deported to their countries of origin upon their release from prison.

The case was successfully investigated by Det Sgt Sibusiso Xaba from the Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Trio Task Team.
