Weekend crime round-up

The victim lost consciousness and only discovered his belongings were missing when he woke up hours later.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend

• Friday – A woman was robbed in her Sallies Village home by a lone robber.

The woman, who lives at an address along Olifant Street, was awakened by a noise at 4.15am.

She got up to close her bedroom door, when a man suddenly walked into the room.

The man was armed with a gun and told the woman to keep quiet.

He instructed her to lie on the floor and tied her hands.

The robber then covered her head with a towel.

Items stolen from the woman’s home include a television set, sewing machine and overlocker, a kettle, cellphone and tablet.

* Two television sets, a safe containing personal documents, and a tablet were stolen from a home along Thomas Street, in Brenthurst.

* A toolbox was stolen from a bakkie parked along Voortrekker Road.

Two suspects were later arrested for being in possession of the toolbox.

* A house in Klipspringer Avenue, Leachville, was burgled of a television set, wall clock and an amplifier.

* Two batteries were stolen from a truck parked along Rangeview Road, near Mall@Carnival.

* Batteries, tools and other valuables were stolen from three trucks parked at business premises along Farquharson Road, in Rand Collieries.

* A female motorist was robbed of her handbag during a smash-and-grab incident, in Dalpark.

The woman was stationary at the traffic lights along Van Dyk Street, when a man smashed the front passenger window.

The thief grabbed her handbag and fled on foot.

The incident took place at about 4.15pm.

* The driver of a white Mercedes Benz C200 was hijacked along West Street, in Sonneveld.

The man and a friend had stopped along the road at about 9pm, when a car stopped behind them.

Three men alighted the vehicle and approached the Mercedes.

One of the men pointed a gun at the Mercedes driver and told him to get out of the car.

He and the passenger did so, and the hijackers climbed into the car and drove off.

The victim managed to stop a passing motorist for help but the hijackers fired a shot at this vehicle, and its driver sped off.

The victim and his passenger then sought help from a security guard at a nearby housing complex.

* A man was robbed of his keys, bank card and R100 by five men.

The victim was walking along Prince George Avenue, near Voortrekker Road, at 9.30pm, when the gang confronted him.

He was assaulted and struck over the head with a broken bottle.

* A store in Mall@Carnival was robbed by three men.

An employee was confronted by the trio as he was locking up the shop at 9.15pm.

He was assaulted and threatened with a gun and forced to open the safe.

The robbers fled with a large sum of cash and the employee’s cellphone.

One of the men was apprehended on the scene and arrested.

* Three men made off with cash and cigarettes after robbing a petrol station along Prince George Avenue, in Brenthurst.

Pretending to be customers, the men entered the shop at about 9.45pm.

One of the men threatened the female cashier with a gun and told her to open the cash register.

The robbers fled on foot with the loot.

• Saturday – A car, identified only as a Toyota, was stolen from Mall@Carnival.

The theft took place between 1pm and 3pm.

* A case of murder was opened after a man was shot and killed near the Brakpan Train Station.

Police arrived on the scene, at the corner of Station Road and Wenden Avenue, at 10.50pm.

Four bullet cartridges and a cellphone were found near the body.

At the time of publication, the man had not yet been identified.

• Sunday – A break-in took place at a home along Voortrekker Road.

Cash was stolen.

* A Dalpark petrol station was robbed by three men.

The trio entered the shop on the premises, situated along Rangeview Road, at about 10.15pm.

One of the men pointed a gun at the female cashier and demanded money.

The cashier opened the till and the robbers took the cash and walked out of the shop.

Other cases reported:

• Thursday – A business along Floors Road, in Withok Estates, was burgled of cash, tools, computer towers and other valuables.

* Tyres were stolen from a car parked at the corner of Park Street and Northdene Avenue.
