National Police Day was commemorated nationwide on Friday, last week. In honour of the day, the Brakpan SAPS held a prayer service on Thursday.

Clerics from local churches were invited to attend and joined police in prayers for divine intervention in the fight against crime.

Highlights of the event included a candle-lighting ceremony in honour of police officers killed in the line of duty.

Station commander Brig Fredl Jonck gave the keynote address.

Capt Pearl van Staad was the programme director of the prayer service event. Van Staad is the spokesperson for the local police station.
