The mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mzwandile Masina has officially completed 100 days in office.
The period closed off with a renewed sense of vigour and socially-oriented, service delivery programme.
The period served as a pivotal start for the new administration to interact directly with communities of Ekurhuleni and make an assessment of urgent interventions needed.
“The 100 days afforded us an opportunity to assess things we could have done that we didn’t do,” said Masina.
“We are more encouraged to resuscitate the social contract with our people”.
This sentiment is demonstrated by the number of achievements in the period, which were well received by the people of Ekurhuleni.
The mayor’s 100-day programme was as follows:
Masina has increased the bursary scheme for deserving students from R10-million to R100-m.
Together with his team in the Mayoral Committee, the mayor has opened three new clinics, launched the e-verification system for capturing indigent applications,the introduction of chronic medication distribution centres, the release of land to accredited faith-based organisations, as well as improving recreational facilities.
The mayor further undertook to use the 100 days to hand over 292 houses and 280 title deeds, acquire the house of the late liberation struggle icon Chris Hani for heritage purposes, and conduct crime operations in hotspot areas like Germiston, Kempton Park and Boksburg.
Masina has committed to finalising the 100 Vukuphile construction intakes, empower a recycling co-operative in Tembisa and identify land for the construction of a hospitality school around the Kempton Park area.
The above mentioned programmes are some of the many programmes that have been implemented and initiatives undertaken.
Masina has placed emphasis in strong working relations with coalition partners in council in order to ensure that service delivery isn’t compromised for residence.
“Consultation is vital in order to ensure that the coalition works effectively for the greater benefit of our people,” he said.
“We are working as a collective. Nothing should compromise the social contract we have with the citizens of Ekurhuleni.”
