Another award for the Hirsches

The awards celebrate business leaders and people who have made a difference in their countries and their economies as a whole.

Allan and Margaret Hirsch were the runners-up in the Southern Africa World Entrepreneur Awards.

Presented by Ernst and Young, the awards ceremony was recently held at the Inanda Club, in Sandton.

The awards celebrate business leaders and people who have made a difference in their countries and their economies as a whole.

Finalists were selected on entrepreneurial spirit, financial performance, personal integrity and influence, innovation, community/global impact and strategic direction.

Peter Mountford from Super Group was announced as the winner, with the Hirschs, and Stephen Brookes from Balwin Properties, as runners-up in the Master category.

The Hirschs, who started their appliance and electronic business 37 years ago in a tiny shop in Durban North with just R900 in the bank, were delighted to have been nominated for the award, and as the only unlisted company in their category, proud to have gone so far.

This has been a successful year generally for the Hirsch group and they recently opened their 18th branch in South Africa, in Brakpan.

In addition, the company has won several awards recently, including Top Business (trade) in KwaZulu-Natal, and Margaret has won 18 business awards in the last four years, culminating in her Global Inspirational Women Leadership Award and the United States Congressional Commendation Award by the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development.
