New city manager for Ekurhuleni

Mashazi was the city’s acting city manager.

The City of Ekurhuleni has appointed Dr Imogen Mashazi as the new city manager.

Mashazi, a Brakpan resident, was appointed by the council at the November council sitting in Germiston.

She takes over from Khaya Ngema who left the position in August.

Ekurhuleni mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina congratulated Mashazi and wished her well in her new appointment.

“I have no doubt in her capabilities,” he said.

“This is a woman who has been in local government for 20 years and that speaks for itself.

“She has come through the ranks from being an operational staff member to being the chief operations officer – therefore she understands local government very well.

“She understands the systems, policies and most of all the processes of ensuring that we deliver quality, sustainable and predictable services to our people.”

Prior to her recent appointment, Mashazi was the city’s acting city manager.

She has been appointed city manager for five years.

Mashazi’s educational background:

• National certificate in Municipal Financial Management – LGSETA – 2015

• Diploma in Nursing Administration – Unisa – 1995

• Diploma in General Nursing – Unisa – 1985

• Diploma in Midwifery – Unisa – 1986

• Certificate of Excellence: Recognition of Efficient Management – City Council of Springs – 1999

• Certificate in Industrial Audiometry – Technicon Witwatersrand – 1995

• Diploma in Primary Heath Care Service Management Programme – Wits Business School – 1997

She has at least 31 years experience in municipal affairs, which includes:

• Three months as acting city manager for Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM)

• Three years and eight months as chief operations officer for EMM

• Six years as executive director: health and social development for EMM

• Three years and seven months as director family health services for EMM

• One year as acting CEO Nigel Town for EMM

• Six years as deputy director health services and welfare for EMM

• One year as occupational health practitioner for Consol Glass

• Ten years as primary health care nurse for Soweto Community Health Centres / Germiston City Council and Pholosong Casualty
