Woman raped during house robbery

A woman (age not provided) was raped at gunpoint during a robbery in Vulcania.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A suspected burglar was caught at the scene of a break-in, at a shop along Voortrekker Road.

The SAPS were notified of the burglary at about 2am, after receiving a report of three men on the roof of the business.

When the officers arrived, they saw the trio jumping from the roof.

Two of the men managed to evade capture.

Police found suitcases filled with electrical appliances at the scene.

A home along Lawrence Road, in Dalpark, was burgled of cellphones, a television set and cash.

A schoolgirl was robbed of her school bag, containing a tablet, by a man on a bicycle.

The cyclist grabbed the bag from the girl while she was walking home along Rangeview Road, in Dalpark.

The incident took place at about 2.30pm.

A white trailer was stolen from the corner of Hoy Avenue and End Street.

A company situated along Porter Avenue was burgled of a computer, bar fridge, kettle, microwave and other goods.

A grey Toyota Hilux bakkie was stolen from an address along Athlone Avenue, in Dalview.

• Saturday – Burglars stole cellphones, a laptop, a television set, a wallet and a set of car keys from a home along Jones Road.

Cash was stolen during a break-in at a residence along Kingsway Avenue.

Cellphones and tekkies – with a combined value estimated at hundreds of thousands of Rand – were stolen from a shop in Mall@Carnival.

A door at the back of the store had been forced open to gain entry.

It is believed the break-in occurred at about 5am.

Twelve men were arrested at an address along Strauss Street, in Van Eck Park, following the robbery of a truck and two trailers from a logistics company in Witpoort Estates.

The company, situated along Fifth Road, was robbed at about 6.45pm.

The robbers confronted three security guards on duty and threatened them with firearms.

The guards’ hands were bound with cable ties and their faces were covered.

The robbers spoke IsiZulu and told the guards there would be two trucks arriving.

They made off with a truck – loaded with aerosol insecticide valued at over R100 000 – and the two truck trailers.

Police received a tip-off about the robbers’ whereabouts at about 8.45pm and arrived at the address in Van Eck Park, to find them offloading the insecticide from the stolen truck.

Two men managed to evade arrest, but 12 were nabbed.

Police also recovered a signal jamming device.

A residence in Mkhankwa Village informal settlement was burgled of a bag containing clothes, personal documents and a bank card.

A woman (age not provided) was raped at gunpoint during a robbery in Vulcania.

The woman was alone at her Lemmer Road home at about 8pm, when she heard a noise outside.

Startled by the sound, the woman tried to phone her husband, but was confronted by three men in her room.

Two of the men were armed with guns.

One of the men began pulling at her clothing while the other two started searching her home.

The man then raped her, holding his gun to her head.

The robbers fled with a television set, electrical appliances, shoes, blankets and clothes.

• Sunday – A smash-and-grab was reported along Van Dyk Street, in Dalpark.

The incident took place at about 3.30pm.

A female motorist was stationary at the traffic lights when a man smashed her front passenger window.

The thief fled with the woman’s handbag, which had been placed on the floor.

The value of the stolen items is about R5 000.
