Church hosts Information Day

The purpose of the day is to assist homeless people and those who may be experiencing difficulties, in obtaining personal documents, such as IDs and birth certificates.

The Justice and Peace Group of St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Brakpan recently hosted its second Information Day.

The purpose of the day, which was held at the parish hall along Queen Avenue, is to assist homeless people and those who may be experiencing difficulties, in obtaining personal documents, such as IDs and birth certificates.

It also aims to help homeless people who have health queries or those who need info on other related issues.

Guest speakers are invited to address those in attendance and then the opportunity is given to engage with the speaker in a question and answer session.

This year’s speakers included Gloria Khelekhu and Nahomi Xhela from the local health department.

Tom Holt of the Brakpan Local Drug Action Committee spoke on how to obtain help with drug-related problems.

He was also able to answer questions regarding local police and homeless people.

The organisers report that a fair number of people attended the event and were hopefully helped in some way or another.

It is planned that this event will take place annually as the group seeks towards transforming the community for the better.
