EMPD find hijacked car within two hours

With the assistance of the eye in the sky, the metro police were able to locate the vehicle hidden in a yard.

It took less than two hours for members of the EMPD’s Community Liaison and First Responder Units to recover a hijacked vehicle and arrest two men in connection with the crime.

The men were nabbed on Tuesday, last week, after the owner of a white Mazda 323 was hijacked in KwaThema at about 8.30am.

His assailants were armed with a pistol and a knife.

According to EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago, the tracking company relayed the message to the EMPD officers who were able to track the vehicle in Tsakane, resulting in the arrest of two suspects.

“Immediately after receiving the report on the hijacked vehicle, the EMPD Community Liaison and First Responder Units jumped into action,” said Kgasago.

“At exactly 10am, with the assistance of the eye in the sky, the metro police were able to locate the vehicle hidden in a yard in Chicago Section, in Extension Three, Tsakane.

“The owner of the house where the hijacked vehicle was found led the metro police to his accomplice in Extension Nine, in Tsakane.”

The pair, aged 24 and 40, was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle at the Tsakane Police Station.
