Brenthurst mother and children robbed in their home

One of the robbers forced his way inside the house.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Construction workers sleeping on site at an address along 12th Road in Maryvlei were robbed of their money and personal belongings by two men armed with a knife.

One worker was awakened by the pair at about 2.30am, when they entered his container and demanded cash.

They took the man’s cellphone, R300 cash and groceries, and locked him inside.

Tools and machines were also stolen from the site.

An attempted hijacking was reported at the corner of Afrikaner Road and Gloucester Avenue, in Dalview.

Two men robbed a home-based business along Boland Street, in Withok Estates, at about 10am.

The men, both of whom were armed with guns, threatened to kill the owner.

They took him to the room where the safe is kept and took three different guns, four magazines and numerous live rounds from the strongbox.

The owner and his assistant were then locked in different rooms.

The robbers fled in the owner’s silver Mercedes Benz with the guns, a cellphone, laptop, jewellery and cash.

A man walking along Grant Street, in Brakpan North, was robbed at gunpoint by three men.

The trio approached the man and asked him for R2.

When the victim told them he didn’t have R2, one of the men pulled out a firearm and pointed it at him.

They searched his pockets, taking R800 and his cellphone.

They also took his jacket.

A car parked at Bosman Stadium was broken into.

Sound equipment, speakers, and an amplifier were stolen from the vehicle.

A woman and her three children were held up and robbed by two men in their Trollip Street, Brenthurst home.

The robbery took place at about 6.30pm.

The woman was expecting the arrival of a friend and had opened the front door, when one of the robbers forced his way inside the house.

The family were told to lie on the floor and the woman was robbed of her wristwatch.

The robber, who was armed with a gun, then fired a single shot and took the woman to her bedroom.

He helped himself to more of her jewellery and then took her to the dining room.

The woman then saw her friend being led into the house by another robber.

The robbers took a television set, laptop, two cellphones, R500 cash and a silver Renault.

An aluminium ladder was stolen from a bakkie parked at an address along Derby Avenue.

A beige Volkswagen Jetta was stolen from Athlone Avenue, in Dalview.

Liquor, cash, cigarettes, a television set and laptop were stolen during a burglary at a residence along Wenden Avenue.

• Saturday – Two burglaries were reported.

These took place at addresses along Livingstone Avenue and Porter Avenue.

Television sets, a pair of tekkies, clothes and other household items were stolen.

Two motorbikes were stolen.

A red and white Honda was stolen from an address along Van Lingen Street, in Brakpan North, and another bike (make and colour not provided) was stolen from a property in Hope Avenue.

Two laptops, a modem, an external hard drive and a set of keys were stolen from a car parked at Bosman Stadium.

• Sunday – Speakers and an amplifier were stolen from a car parked along Blyde Avenue, in Leachville.

Liquor to the value of R12 000 was stolen during a burglary at a business in Kitzinger Avenue.

A man suspected to be involved in the break-in was later arrested by police.
