WATCH: Oslo goes home

"We saw him and fell in love with him."

Oslo has found a new home.

The boerboel, who now weighs close to 60kg, bid farewell to the Brakpan SPCA this morning (Wednesday), when he was collected by his new owner.

A starving and injured Oslo was rescued by inspectors from the Brakpan SPCA on August 12 from a property in Brakpan.

He had been abandoned at the residence and was found in a severely malnourished state, weighing only 47kg.

Oslo also had an infected wound on his left hind leg, which required treatment with antibiotics.

His new owner, Edenvale resident Mike Mellas, told the Herald that his wife Gillian had seen a Facebook post appealing for assistance with Oslo’s medical treatment.

“We then came through to the SPCA, saw him and fell in love with him,” he said.

According to Brakpan SPCA manager Ming Church, Mike and Gillian would visit Oslo every weekend and would call every day to check on his progress.

“We knew they were just right for Oslo,” she said.

During his stay at the SPCA, Oslo’s health improved tremendously and he was even strong enough to undergo a surgical procedure (neutering) yesterday.

Once he has healed from this surgery, he will be taken for hydrotherapy for his hind legs.

He also still needs to gain a bit of weight, but this is being done in a healthy manner and will take some time.
