Weekend crime round-up

A shoot-out between fleeing criminals and personnel from a local security company took place following a burglary in Brakpan North.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A security guard at a company along Ian Coetzer Street, in Withok Estates, was tied up by three robbers.

The man had returned to the guardroom at about 9.30pm after patrolling the premises, when he was confronted by the trio.

The robbers tied the guard’s hands behind his back and covered his eyes.

He was robbed of a panic button and his cellphone.

The robbers made off with various goods, including cash, a computer, generator and tools.

A business situated along Rangeview Road, in Dalpark, was burgled of headache tablets and other over-the-counter medication, to the value of about R600.

A shoot-out between fleeing criminals and personnel from a local security company took place following a burglary at an address along Van Schoor Street, in Brakpan North.

The domestic worker at the house pressed the panic button when she saw an unknown number of men jumping the wall of the property some time after 11am.

They gained entry to the house by breaking a door and window.

They fled with electronic goods, such as television sets and games consoles, but were confronted by the security company personnel as they drove off from the house.

The men, who were travelling in a blue Ford Ranger bakkie, opened fire on the security personnel and managed to evade their pursuers in Vulcania.

A burglary was reported at a home along Pine Avenue, in Leachville.

Television sets and other electronic goods were stolen.

A house robbery took place at an address along Moepel Street, in Dalpark.

• Saturday – A white and blue Yamaha motorbike was stolen from an address along Brodigan Avenue, in Dalview, and a white Nissan Sentra was stolen from the Sherwood Shopping Centre.

Three men robbed an entertainment venue along Kitzinger Avenue.

The robbers entered the establishment at about 3.30am and threatened a staff member and security guard with a gun.

They took a substantial amount of cash from the safe, as well as two cellphones.

An address along Daimler Avenue, in Kenleaf, was burgled of a television set and sound system.

• Sunday – Batteries were stolen from trucks parked at an address along Molecule Road, in Vulcania.

A car radio was stolen from a vehicle parked at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Park Street.

Four burglaries took place.

Cellphones, television sets, jewellery, perfume and laptops were among the items stolen from homes along Mahogany Street, in Dalpark, Kent Drive and Carmylie Avenue, in Dalview, and Colliery Road, in Minnebron.

A motorist was robbed of R6 000 cash and three cellphones, by three occupants of a white Volkswagen Polo.

The victim was travelling along Heidelberg Road, near Carnival City, at about 1.30pm, when the Polo suddenly stopped in front of him.

An armed man alighted the vehicle and approached the victim, demanding money.

The victim was forced out of his car and pistol whipped.

The robber searched the victim, taking his cash and cellphones.

He then returned to the Polo and the trio sped off.

A house robbery was reported at an address along Kouga Street, in Leachville.
