Fraudster makes second court appearance, faces extradition

In June this year, authorities in the United States requested the Interpol unit to arrest and extradite the woman.

The case against a 44-year-old American woman, who has been on the run since 2009, was postponed to September 19, to allow the State to get the formal extradition documents from the United States.

The woman, who was arrested in a rental house in Brakpan, on Wednesday morning, last week, made a second appearance in the Brakpan Magistrates Court yesterday (Thursday).

She was arrested by members of the extradition unit of Interpol.

According to information received, she was arrested in 2006 and was due to be sentenced on December 11, 2009, when she skipped the country and found a hiding place in South Africa.

She was found guilty on three offences relating to fraud and embezzlement of funds from her employer.
