A sightseeing celebration

A group of Brakpan women commemorated Women’s Day on Tuesday, last week, by exploring the most famous street in Soweto.

The women are members of a local social club called Makhi (neighbours) and many of them are residents of Worsdworth Street, in Dalpark Extension Six.

Their journey to Vilakazi Street included a visit to the Nelson Mandela Museum, which was the former president’s home.

Mandela and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, both Nobel Prize winners, lived along the street.

The women also dined at one of the local restaurants.

Club chairperson Victoria Mudau told the Herald the club was formed in May, last year, with the aim of helping each other.

“We realised there are women who need assistance,” she said.

“Some women have issues and have no one with whom they can talk.”

Makhi meet every second month and Victoria can be contacted on 082 871 9325 for more information.
