Tomorrow (Saturday) the Germiston and Katlehong libraries will be open for registration for all young people between the ages of seven and 21 for an eight-week free course in coding skills used to design mobile applications, games and websites.
The Learnerthon programme will provide candidates with skills on computer basics, digital literacy, creative coding, app studio and touch develop (gamification).
This will empower young people with free information, communication and technology (ICT) coding skills to inspire them to pursue careers in the ICT space and spark their creative side.
Learners will be expected to work in groups to decide on a project towards the end of the course and develop it from start to finish with the support of their mentors.
An 80 per cent pass rate on the digital literacy course is a prerequisite for learners to progress to the next course.
After the Learnerthon programme learners have an option to pursue a six-week course on computer analytics also offered for free at Ekurhuleni libraries.
