Environmental disaster cleaned

Clean-up operations at the Labore property engulfed in oil have commenced.

It was reported in the Herald’s April 22 edition, ‘Oily mess sparks concern‘ how the Joule Street property, where crude oil and oilseed cake was once manufactured, was engulfed in black, smelly sludge.

The oil had also flooded the surrounding area, affecting neighbouring businesses.

A visit by the Herald to the site on Thursday, last week, revealed that the oil is being cleaned up and that equipment on the property is being cleaned up and that equipment on the property is being dismantled and removed.
