Mayor and minister to address youth issues

The main issues to be addressed include youth unemployment, economic emancipation, skills development and education.

Ekurhuleni mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele and the deputy minister of Government Communications Stella Ndabeni Abrahams will today (Saturday) engage with the youth on socio-economic challenges facing young people of Ekurhuleni as part of the Soweto Uprising 40th anniversary.

The Mayoral Youth Lecture will take place at 6pm at the Germiston Civic Centre (Banqueting Hall).

The main issues to be addressed include youth unemployment, economic emancipation, skills development and education.

“We chose these particular topics because we believe that these are main critical issues faced by young people in our country,” said Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

“We therefore hope that young people will progressively and aggressively engage these leaders on these pertinent issues.

“However we are not limiting the youth to talk about these issues only, they can also raise issues affecting them in their communities such as drugs and crime.”

Thulani Tshefuta, the president of the South African Youth Council, will be a speaker on the day.

Thulani’ s input will dwell on the cultural foundations of youth development and the role of civic youth organisations.
