Jail time for housebreakers
All three cases were investigated by Det Const Selwyn Pieterse.
The following cases were recently finalised in the Brakpan Regional Court:
• Angus Geyser (35) was sentenced to six years imprisonment for housebreaking and theft.
The break-in occurred at a residence along Hamilton Avenue, on December 4, 2012.
Two DVD players to the value of approximately R1 000 were stolen.
Fingerprints lifted by the Local Criminal Record Centre at the premises identified Geyser.
He was arrested on April 14, this year.
Two years of the sentence were suspended for five years, on condition that he is not convicted of housebreaking with the intent to steal, theft, or any other attempts thereof, during the period of suspension.
• Albert Mandkawe (27) was sentenced to six years imprisonment for housebreaking and theft.
Mandkawe was identified by his fingerprints, which were lifted from a residence in Naboom Street, in Dalpark Extension Six, following a break-in on March 7, 2012.
About R20 000 worth of electrical appliances were stolen.
At the time of the sentencing, Mandkawe, a Mozambican national, was already serving an eight-year jail term for housebreaking and theft.
The court ordered that three years of the sentence run concurrently with the sentence he is currently serving.
It was further recommended that when Mandkawe is due for release, his legality in South Africa be investigated and deportation considered.
• Fernando Mabuwa (36) was sentenced to six years imprisonment for housebreaking and theft, and four years for theft.
He was convicted on two separate cases and, at the time of sentencing, was already serving a 10-year prison term for housebreaking and theft.
The housebreaking took place between 10pm on October 15 and 6.30am on October 16, 2010.
A residence along Rangeview Road, in Dalpark Extension Six, was burgled of household appliances, a television set and a DVD player, to the value of about R15 000.
The following year, between 5pm on March 24 and 7.10am on March 25, a vehicle parked at a residence along Camelthorn Street, in Dalpark Extension Six, was broken into.
Two amplifiers, a radio and the vehicle’s four wheels were stolen.
Mabuwa, a Mozambican national, was linked to both crimes by his fingerprints.
The court ordered that three years of the imprisonment run concurrently with the sentence he is currently serving.
It was also recommended that his legality in South Africa be investigated when he is due to be released, and deportation be considered.
