Animal bones dumpsite cleaned

The smelly bones have been removed.

The site in Dalpark Extension 13, where hundreds of animal bones and carcasses were found dumped, has been cleaned.

Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe confirmed the site, situated along Rooibos Street, was cleaned on Saturday, last week.

“The area is cleaned at least once a week, but residents continue to dump in the area, making it difficult to keep clean,” he said.

Gadebe explained that animal remains are safely disposed of at the landfill site.

“They are disposed in a prepared area and covered with soil immediately,” he said.

Gadebe warned that it is a contravention of the Solid Waste By-laws to dispose anything illegally, and a fine of R2 000 or imprisonment of 24 months can be imposed if found guilty.

Illegal dumping can be reported to the Ekurhuleni Call Centre on 0860 543 000 or the Brakpan Waste Management office on 011 740 0534/32.
