Tip-off leads to hijacked car
The vehicle still displayed its original number plate.
A car that was hijacked in Benoni in February was found at an address in Brakpan on Saturday, last week.
The blue Volkswagen Golf GTI was recovered in a yard at the corner of Station and Hamilton roads.
A tip-off from a member of the public led Const Frikkie Weitz, from the EMPD Brakpan Precinct, to the address at about 5pm.
“The vehicle still displayed its original number plate, but all the wheels were missing,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago.
“The house is rented out to tenants, all of whom claimed ignorance when the metro police probed on the vehicle.”
The Golf was towed to the SAPS Van Ryn Deep Pound in Benoni and police investigations are under way to locate the culprits.
