Police project could help save a child’s life

A full set of fingerprints of the child is taken.

Brakpan police visited Jolly Jumbo Kleuterskool on Wednesday morning, last week, to record the children’s fingerprints.

The fingerprints were taken as part of a police project, which aims to expedite the process of identifying children should they go missing.

When a child goes missing, it is imperative to provide the child’s particulars to the police as soon as possible.

This project sees this information collected and kept on record.

The project aims to expedite the process of identifying children should they go missing. Linda Swart and Capt Joep Joubert are from the Brakpan SAPS.

Each child receives a form, which must be carefully completed by the child’s parent.

It contains information about the child’s name, address, gender, weight, hair colour, height, eye colour and distinguishable marks or features.

A recent photograph of the child is attached to the form and a full set of fingerprints of the child is taken.

For more information about the project, schools and crèches can contact Capt Joep Joubert on 011 744 4940.
