Here’s how many television sets were sold on Makro Carnival’s opening day

By close of business over 6 000 customers had swiped their Makro access cards.

Approximately 20 000 people in total made their way to the Makro Carnival opening day celebrations yesterday (Wednesday) and took advantage of the many opening day deals.

The first customer arrived at the store at 6.30pm the day before and was awarded a R5 000 Makro gift card.

The opening was a huge success and by close of business over 6 000 customers had swiped their Makro access cards.

Loads of products on promotion were snatched up with 1 038 TV sets, 418 laptops and a whopping 1631 DSTV Exploras being sold.

In the food category, close to 8 000 18 packs of two ply toilet paper were bought along with 135 000 litres of  full cream milk.

In addition to the big deals, some lucky shoppers bagged the various giveaways and spot prizes which formed part of the day’s activities.

Massmart CEO Guy Hayward and Makro Operations director, Gert Lourens helped Makro CEO Doug Jones cut the ribbon to officially open the Makro Carnival store.

Other dignitaries in attendance at the opening included Greg Solomon, CEO of McDonald’s SA and Sean Katzen, managing director of Accenture.

As part of Makro’s community engagement efforts, Makro Carnival along with CSI partner Hope Worldwide, handed over R20 000 worth of assistance to three Early Childhood Development centres from the Wattville area – Memorial, Tambo and Little Angels day care centres.
