Dalpark resident shoots suspected robber

One of the intruders tried to stab the resident with a screwdriver.

An inquest case is being investigated by Brakpan police after a suspected house robber was fatally wounded by a Dalpark resident this morning (Wednesday).

The 39-year-old Spinnaker Street resident, who lives with his wife and two children, heard a noise downstairs at about 3.15am and went to investigate.

According to Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander, as the resident made his way down the stairs, he was approached by four men, one of whom tried to stab him with a screwdriver.

The men had gained entry into the house by breaking a window.

“The resident had his firearm with him and fired one shot, and the suspects fled the scene,” said Joubert.

Three of the men managed to escape, but the fourth was found in the driveway of a neighbouring property.

“After further investigation it was found that he was fatally wounded in the chest,” added Joubert.

Police seized two screwdrivers and a bolt cutter on the scene, as well as one of the unknown deceased’s tekkies.
