Adopt-a-School drive kicks off today

Ekurhuleni mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele will embark on the drive where he will donate school uniforms to those in need.

As the new academic year unfolds, the City of Ekurhuleni will be doing its bit to ensure that less fortunate children are afforded an education.

Today, Ekurhuleni mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele will embark on the Adopt-a-School drive where he will donate school uniforms to those in need.

Next week he will host the annual Academic Excellence Awards where learners from the Class of 2015 will be awarded bursaries.

The Adopt-a-School visits will begin at Thoko Thaba Secondary School in Thokoza followed by Winnie Mandela Secondary School in Tembisa on Friday.

Phelang School in KwaThema will be visited on Tuesday, January 26.

On Wednesday, January 27, the Academic Excellence Awards will be held under the theme “Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers” and it will see deserving learners being presented bursaries from the Ekurhuleni Community Bursary Fund and the mayor’s Tertiary Assistance Fund for the 2016 academic year.

The award ceremony will commence with an interactive breakfast with the mayor, where the top achievers will share their journey through matric with Gungubele.

This will be followed by the acknowledgment of the best performing schools and most improved priority schools in each district.
